Hi Harriet and thanks for your very insightful comments. I love the idea of being able to observe with toot hairs and rhizosheath formation as a metric of soil health. I have to say with perennial crops its harder to observe though. Wouldn’t you agree?
Assuming we have prepared adequate soil structure and nutritional conditions to favour indigenous fungi in the soil, what are our options to inoculate them into a degraded soil? It seems that managing bacterial brews is very easy with lacto-ferments or JADAM type preparations – but fungal inoculants are more complex. Do we have to rely on commercial products?
Is it even worth inoculating or should we just focus on the right conditions and establishing a solid bacterial community?
