I’m currently in the process of terminating cover crops (mostly Daikon radish) and tilling it in for various reasons. Since June we have mostly concentrated on growing cover crops and amending the soil, as well as trying to learn. We are now going to transition into actually having a product for market. We have 6000sqft of growing space currently between the two plots. We will be canning and saving a good portion of the produce on this go around. The rest we will be selling to friends, family and coworkers.
We plan on starting to get plants in the ground about mid February depending on weather forecast and finishing up with planting by mid March. This cycle should be finished by end of May early June. I haven’t decided what I will do at that time.
The main crops we are planting this time around are tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, melons, sweet corn, potatoes, peppers, and some eggplant. I will intercrop with green beans, carrots, beets, and some various cover crop plants such sunn hemp (basically trying to fill in space and get roots in the ground). In the future we will probably shrink the amount of variety and go for more quantity but for now we are needing to stock up for ourselves.
I will be doing some sap testing to further my education. I won’t do all the crops or in great frequency but just enough to try and learn some things. I’ve attached my latest soil test below as well as some pics of fungal activity in the best are of my plot.
