Nice to hear about your results!
I have been working with flowers and perennial cover crops in tomatoes as I have big problems in an early fall to get a cover crop going – with very mixed results. Calendula was fine, Tagetes also, Antirrhinum in low density very good. Mazus reptans was a failure and Ajuga reptans resulted in severe stunting (this was in combination with Parsley in a distance of a row) in the second year. Cotula is in trial this year
What works best for structure preservation is Lamb’s lettuce. Low density Oca with tomato has been a superb low care ground cover combination for years providing a lot of biomass for over winter mulch. New Zealand spinach has not worked here, but other people liked it a lot.
