Hey Nina,
Thanks for your input — I really appreciate it.
Yes, I’m definitely still in the exploratory phase, since I’m only just starting to develop the plan. The main issue here is really the restructuring of the vineyard area. Given the current critical market situation, we have to drastically reduce acreage and find alternative ways to use the vineyards.
Structurally, everything here is very small-scale and highly fragmented. None of the farmers have large, contiguous plots. Even the other farmers who grow vegetables or specialty crops do so in a purely industrial way and definitely not organically — which I see as a clear advantage of our way of farming.
When I talk about fruit, I’m mainly referring to perennial systems: fruit trees, berry bushes, nut trees, high-value timber, and possibly other high-value annual crops such as culinary herbs, medicinal plants, and herbal teas. I’ve also been thinking about collaborations with schools and educational institutions that could use the land for training and hands-on work with composting and ferments.
Overall, it’s an ambitious project that still requires a lot of planning — but you have to start somewhere, and I figured I’d get some input from the pros 😉
