    I think it can be good to know your level so that you get a good idea of the power of your soil to hold nutrients. My experience is you can’t really change it all that well with minerals, and trying to do so is very expensive. I’d rather spend my money building soil organic matter and put plants into the soil that are mineral accumulators and then mulch them. On my own ground that was very effective. I do still put a little gypsum down every 3 months because I have sodic water, but I am not concerned with balancing the soil cations or changing the cec. All I care about is what is the plant seeing in the sap. I can get there much quicker with biological inoculants and stimulants, cover crops, high quality composts in low doses, and precision foliar feeding. My irrigated soil is pH of 8, CEC of 34, 25% base saturation of sodium, and I found this regenerative approach 10x better than the soil balancing approach.
