We conducted numerous tests with compost teas and observed a consistent increase in silicon content in sap testing, occurring in 90% of the cases. While we include small amounts of rock dust in the compost tea (around 20g per hectare), I believe it is the biological components that primarily enhance silicon uptake. In soils with robust biology, rock dust with a high silicon content (50 kg/ha) can rapidly become plant-available. For less fertile soils, amorphous silica is a preferable but more expensive alternative.
In situations where the biological aspect is functioning optimally, silicon ceases to be a concern.
