Long-term correction of magnesium deficiency in calcium rich soils.
I am applying magnesium sulfate monohydrate ( ESTA Kieserite, with 25% Mg and 50 SO3). The pH of the soil is 7.2. My lab does not measure the EC value. I could measure it by myself, What does it tell me if the EC value goes up? Yes, I am stuck with the high Calcium base saturation…..
We have a lot of rain, 1100mm annually, so nutrients are washed out. -

Simplifying nutrient management
Many people notice improved root development and rhizosheath formation with seed and in-furrow applications of good quality compost extracts. Higher Brix readings are also common with biofertilizer use. Whether that translates to improved yield is something you would have to assess with some on-farm trials.

@BrianDougherty thank you for the tips. I will join the group on facebook. Do you usually get noticeable responses from these composts? Even after the first application or does the biology need some time to establish?

Future Analytics soil and sap testing
G’day all,
Just came across a series of videos with Melissa Werkema about her soil test protocol that she learnt in Israel.
Part of the test is a custom Haney type analysis using extractants depending on the type of organic acids found in the soil sample. She also tests for humic and fulvic acid levels in the soil and has examples of how the…

Simplifying nutrient management
Hi Gio, I’d suggest looking into making biofertilizers and compost/extracts on-farm. The Johnson-Su composting method is gaining popularity but there are many different approaches to low-cost biological and fertility inputs. If you have access to Facebook there is a discussion group where you can get ideas and ask…
