It is nice to hear someone else suggesting that iron is the key to slug resistance. I have a theory about this which is backed up by some casual trials I did last year. Never used the product. If the sticks and larger bits are a problem like you stated it seems to me it might bear purchasing or borrowing a wood chipper/shredder.
