I am convinced I need to do what I can to increase silicon in plant tissue in my melon starts in the green house. I am thinking I need to add rock dust, Azomite or some other amendment/ mineral to my potting mix. It’s been a rough week for many farmers with livestock.

Just very cold and windy in Iowa, but only an inch or so of snow. We’re curious how our winter annuals will hold out in the cold. Keeping the LP heaters going in the hog barns has been the main job for me!

Possible cover crops to use under trees in orchards?
We’ve tried quite a few species under our vines. As someone said there is no one species that will do all that was asked for. However, for something easy to sow, easy to destroy, fast growing, highly allelopathic that attracts pollinators, it is buckwheat. It works well in southern Québec.
