Johnson-Su Compost in Orchard Settings
I’m currently employing vermicompost liquids and johnson-su compost on about 15 acres of vineyard. You see some improvement in fungal numbers and an increase in protozoa and nematodes with the first application, but since some areas are severely lacking in organic matter they tend to drop off in drier/more sandy spots. One really fun effect…

HI West, I look forward to hearing about what you learn from your trails. Finding ways to reduce the negative disturbances and increases the positive will move us in the right direction to improve soil structure and biology and ecosystem function.

Johnson-Su Compost in Orchard Settings
I don’t know of anyone else doing this on scale. I tried it for fun (my kind of fun I guess) and it was interesting to see all the things that developed in the compost bin. I have applied it to our fields, but inoculation and results are very hard to quantify. I do see lots of mushrooms peeking out in the fields, but it isn’t an everywhere thing.

I am interested in your results. Did you look at the extract under a microscope before applying?
Is anyone else using compost teas or other similar extracts in a large orchard setting?
