Is there any scientific evidence to the following claim: sap sucking insect prefer to digest mineral N rather than amino acids?
This is step two in the plant health pyramid.
But,
Can not find any evidence for this in the literature.
Quite the contrast.
So, if any one knows of any evidence for this claim please let me know.

Hi Ido,
My understanding is that indeed aphids prefer/need simple N (typically nitrate) to digest. I also do not have an understanding as to why nitrate would be easier to digest than free amino acids. However, as amino acids also have slightly more complex structure (both amine N and carboxyl groups.. etc) than just free nitrate or ammonium,…

I believe there may be a slight misunderstanding of the Plant Health Pyramid.
At level one plants begin to build complex carbohydrates and insects that feed on simple sugars are no longer able to feed.
