My well water tested 220ppm bicarbonates and I did a lot of study into the various acids one could use to neutralize the bicarbs but never got into studying potential negative effects. I was planning on using sulfuric acid but then I tested my pond water and it had bicarbonates less than 20 so I switched routes and am making an irrigation system from my pond. I had originally assumed my pond water would be high in bicarbonates as well seeing the pH often tested around 8 but the water test showed it had very little buffering in it and could swing from a pH of 6 to 8 in a very short time. I know my story doesn’t help much but for those who may have an optional water source it could give them an idea for irrigation.
