    Leaf Spurge is maybe the closest thing to croton in ducerf vol. 1? Euphorbia esula – he says it’s an indicator of winter submersion and rapid summer drying. Maybe completely irrelevant!

    I guess the question is – how do you develop an understanding like his? He included a lot of photos in which plants are thriving in very extreme but natural environments – very gravely, sandy, or wet soil, etc. Maybe he uses the identifiable extreme as a data point in his understanding.

    Also, spending so much time on our own farms must be making this more difficult. We’re missing so much context and information by only looking at how the plants behave in the one location.

    Where do you see that plant growing as you drive around or whatever?
