So I have been thinking about the Johnson su compost and my theory is.

Why go to all the trouble of creating an artificial environment which has no living roots to host microbes when I can just go to a healthy undisturbed soil and culture the microbial community that has developed in conditions much like what where I am intending to use them.

I have heard great things about the Johnson su but I also know that many types of fungi can not be cultured without living roots. How long will these survive in liquid and how much oxygen do they need? That is one of the questions I need to answer.
