1000 ppm is your minimum baseline that your soil needs to be able to supply calcium to the growing crop, this equates to about 2000 pounds of calcium. the animals will only remove a tiny fraction of this per season, likely no more than 10 lbs. Gary Zimmer has a great saying about fertilising with calcium ” being on the road to Rome is a lot more fun than getting there”. What he means is that fertilising your calcium to supply everything your crop needs and a bit extra to build your calcium reserves will give you better results in your grass production then dumping all of that calcium on at once.

This obviously changes the options from your point of view considerably, the micronised lime is used in small quantities for this reason and it is highly available, the gypsum you were recommended will do the job too but it is less available.

Soil balancing is nice but sometimes you simply can not do it all at once and you shouldn’t try.

Obviously you need to make sure your boron and silica are up to the job too.

I can see now where the confusion was coming in.
