    Strawberries: the plants that need chitin will suffer most from insecticidal side effects. Molting insects shed so much of that material. Chitin is currently still rated as the second most abundant polymer on earth, but I think that this number is biased from the time where fungicides and insecticides have not reduced insect population sizes in the “western” world up to 90%. I expect that we are going to see drastic changes in ecosystems (species composition, functioning) in the future.

    So, be kind to insects. Shelter, food, diversity, so you will get predatory insects controlling the not so nice ones…

    Now an investigation: what makes you interested in native microbes? Money? Quality? Curiosity? …?
