Yeah we have the same problem, can’t find enough mulch materials. We’re working to grow them in place, but haven’t figured out the timing/rotation really. Next season, hopefully.
I’d like to figure out how to get rye to pollen stage faster – feels like such a long season to grow it to a crimpable stage.
We bring in leaves and straw for some crops, but of course it’s a lot of labor and both have drawbacks. Also I try to leave as much residue around as possible.
I’m interested to try a half-composted wood chip. We used chips last season, but they were relatively fresh and we did have some tie up issues. I want to revisit it with a better material, biology, and application.
