One afterthought about EDTA. These chelaters are not degraded easily and actively chelating ions in soils – for the good and bad. They mobilize heavy metals and promote drainage of minerals if they are not unloaded by biology quickly. This is why I prefer small organic molecules (acids/amino acids/siderophores) as they are at the same time microbial foodstuff.
