First and third picture are for comparison: they are from the mother plant of the cutting in the greenhouse which had severe problems setting in the hot period – late spring was OK, but at most it set 2 large tomatoes per cluster. This is not a typical behaviour of tomato heirlooms (this is why it took me too long to figure out what went wrong as I kept thinking of nutritional imbalances)! I put this comparison here to illustrate the necessity of appropriate culture conditions to be successful with heirlooms. The mistake I made was a wrong watering scheme that led to insufficient moisture in the deeper layers, so the roots stayed only in the very surface layer in the greenhouse. Obviously they did not fancy that.

The second picture is the J.S. Plant, which showed unusual intense guttation.
