Yes good point! I have wondered that in the past but I also thought that it would perhaps give weeds a head start in the growing zones maybe?…

As far as soil tilth goes I’m resonably confident. By keeping the surface covered and having plenty of roots in that tilled zone along with adding biology I’ve got my fingers crossed that it’ll be fine enough to grow a straight marketable root and also flow through our harvester ok. I guess its one of those things you don’t know till you try..
