Gonna high-jack this thread a bit…
We do have 40 milking cows and their offspring, nowadays they are all on a straw-bed during wintertime. So this gives us around 500t of straw based manure we take out once around Christmas time and once in April when all animals are outside. We also do have a lagoon where some liquid and mostly washing water and some chicken manure gets collected.
The manure gets tipped on the field for composting, we do add biodynamic preparations and usually manage to turn the heap once during the year with a wheel loader before it gets spread out mostly in the spring thereafter.
I feel though that this is not yielding the quality we need, so I would like to hear your suggestions or experiences on how to treat the manure to get more quality out of it. Do you treat your manure already in the stable? Do you feed your livestock supplements with the goal to “modify” the manure? How do you handle the composting?
