First year was rough for a few reasons. I only took one soil sample, was late on everything I did, had a fungal disease we still haven’t identified, and my yield was not as high as the conventional acres on my dad’s farm. He sprayed fungicide. This is the first year for this field to not have a fungicide application. I’ve decided to use them for a second year on corn, and Nathan has coached me on a plan to get the anti fungal minerals higher in my plants so I won’t get hit again with disease. With prices the way they are I’m happy to eliminate the P and K applications that the co-op recommends, but the AEA program is about the same price. Much almost nothing in common with dad’s conventional program. Makes it a hard conversation when I’m borrowing money from him to put out a crop.
