Hi Alexandre,
I think wood ashes are the cheapest fertilizer/amendment and it comes from what our society call “a waste”. Here in France, biomass boilers are very popular to heat hospitals. They burn only woodchips and they give or some pay farmers to get rid of the ashes. So this year I’m starting using them in my walnuts orchards and raspberry fields. I was thinking about spreading them at a rate of 2 tons per hectare. If I follow the recommendations of the article, 1.5 tons is the maximum, so I can try with this rate. I doing sap analysis every two weeks so I will see the benefits, especially Ca, K and Mn, elements that I’m lacking.
