I am absolutely no fan of EDTA as it does not degrade easily. EDTA also will solubilize metal ions indiscriminately that means it will also deliver heavy metals.

What was an accidental find is that EDTA chelation will shift Fenton reaction that degrades SOM into the neutral pH range. So it will change the soil SOM metabolism to an extent that we do not know, and that it does take place in non-waterlogged conditions.
