Thank you for your thoughts. I have encountered some planting situations where the field was eroded and degraded such that few cover crops would take off without a lot of help. I’ve only used winter rye in high fertility situations but I understand that it is supposed to respond even on poor soils. I envision starting with solo winter rye, and building up the number of species in the 2nd and 3rd years.
