We observe velvetleaf proliferating in soil where toxic liquid manure was applied. When the liquid manure is removed, velvetleaf fades after a few years. I seem to recall reading that it is associath fermentation of organic material to ethane and methane because of anoxic conditions. From Weeds, Control without Poisons, by Charles Walters.
