I am of both minds. I ultimately decided (for now) that our biggest threat, and reason for grafting, is phylloxera which thrives in clay soils, so we are doing some EM work in the next few weeks. We have areas in the farm where the loam is predominantly sand, so own rooted vines in the sand and then grafted vines in the more heavily clay soils. I am not opposed to grafting, I just think it is a default for so many growers and in my way had to understand why 😉
