Well that’s actually a great question because, come to think about it, I haven’t seen any of the harvest with slug damage. In the last harvest of 500 heads of lettuce, we found 2 slugs on 2 different heads, which probably means there’s another 10 heads with slugs that we didn’t see. However, there was no slug damage…maybe they were going for a taste, but aren’t staying. There’s slugs everywhere on the farm now, but they aren’t really on the crops. The whole property is heavily mulched, and the slugs are enjoying that.

It’s still an issue because if 2% of product has a slug, that’s the kind of surprise that a customer will definitely make a fuss about.

So, now I’m thinking that we may not have a crop problem, but rather just a lot of pressure from the environment that is leaking over to the crop. Does that sound possible?
