We use drip irrigation to keep evaporation loss to a minimum. I was using sap brix (the only thing I can test for really) as a guide for the rhythm of watering. Longer, deeper, fewer waterings was the ticket, but I’m growing perennial fruit (wine grapes) so they have the roots to support that kind of watering. Praying for a good seasonal rain to help move/dilute excess salts since rain is basically distilled water, but our average rainfall is 14-16″ a year. Many times you get a quarter of that in one week during monsoons.
