Greetings! I know this is an old post, but I am also keenly interested in this topic. I’m wondering what you have determined. One application for me is a chrysanthemum crop. I need to keep that crop in vegetative dominance through mid season (they like to prematurely bud, which stunts the size and architecture of the finished plant) so, cytokinin dominant right? But then, as I approach full size I need to make a strong switch to reproductive mode to set blooms. The industry typically uses PGRs, but I think it must be possible to accomplish through careful nutrient management. Also, I don’t think it is so much that you end up producing auxin in the root tips as just tipping the balance of auxin and cytokinin in the plant as a whole organism. With lower auxin overall, more sugars can remain in the root instead of being transported to the sugar sinks (shoot tips and fruit). Even my elementary level understanding of auxin has lended me a great deal of insight into fruit tree pruning practices. I think it is worth fleshing out.
