The red clover crop has nice root structure and does increase soil porosity. There are always earthworms below the established red clover plants. I do not adjust my N rates based on red clover but I do run lower synthetic rates on average so any boost can help. We no till drill into the stand with a disc drill. Terminate with glyphosate before or after seeding. A moderate rate of glyphosate doesn’t seem to kill it always and we can get a persistent stand which is ok unless producing a low growing legume grain crop.
I would like to try a perennial clover on a field that I do not terminate and just set back with herbicide. White or subterranean clover? We don’t get loads of moisture so we need to be cautious in this venture.
