This is from a picture from last fall. I just joined Kind Harvest and this seemed like a place to post the info. I am a couple miles from the Wisconsin border.
I added a dual fertilizer system to my planter this year so I can put a pop up in the furrow and lay down high gallon 2×2 nitrogen mix. I would think that this would place some nutrition + microbes right on the seed. I have also started no-till this year, so I am hoping that the microbial populations will shuttle nutrition to the spaced out plants.
I have seen 18,000 ppa dryland in Nebraska make 180 bu corn on 17 inches of rain (2015). I would think with our 32+ inches of rain a year that we should be able to make more corn. I am more worried on weed control than nutritional deficiencies.
The skip row trial hybrids were all from Midwest Seed, which they got from four or five different breeding programs. I think that any seed corn company would have similar results, so long as there are some flex genetics in the hybrid.
I am actually experimenting this year with open pollinated corn varieties to see if I can phase out hybrids and grow my own seed corn. So far, its the best looking corn on the farm.
