    Yes, it is difficult and expensive to test Eh. I don’t know of a Farm that does more on site testing than us, and we have tinkered with Eh but discontinued because it is difficult and expensive.

    However! Understanding how it works is still probably the most important thing for you to understand about soil dynamics. I say that without exaggeration. You can understand the redox state of your soil and plants symptomatically over time. Like if you don’t have a fuel gauge in your car, it’s only gonna take you a few times, driving it to realize how many miles you can go before you run out of gas, and then you can use the odometer infer how much gas you have.

    Except Redox chemistry is the foundation of all life on this planet and possibly the universe. So even though it is difficult to understand, stick with it, Because there is a lifetime of lessons ahead of you and you could study it every day for the rest of your life.

    It’s like learning a second language. It’s very uncomfortable at first. But at a certain point, you gain enough comfort with the concepts and language that it becomes quite enjoyable to carry on.
