I had several trials out last year that were inconclusive due to extreme weather. Here in central IN it was so wet in the spring I had terrible root development, then toward the end of the season we had an extreme drought, just missing some rains the farms 5mi down the road got. Our corn yields were off over 55bu. That said, the GMO vs NGMO plots yielded exactly the same. A couple places I split the planter and a couple were in 200ft wide blocks and the yield variability wasn’t conclusive at all.

As Glen said, make sure you keep the grass under control. Here I have a lot of foxtail pressure and I found out last year I pretty much have to use atrazine in NGMO in my current weed pressure condition and I don’t like atrazine any more than I do glyphosate. If anyone knows of a grass residual that works as well as atrazine I’d love to hear about it.

My current leaning is toward using GMO as much as I don’t like it. I think it is the practical answer. Using cover crops to suppress weeds at the beginning of the season, then burning down with only one well timed app of glyphosate, and only coming back with glyphosate again if it is actually necessary is my current preferred system. Compare that to my NGMO system where I am burning down with glyphosate and Lumax EZ(atrazine, s-metolachlor, mesotrione) and then possibly coming back with Empyros(s-metolachlor) if necessary, I think the GMO option is cleaner from a regenerative standpoint.
