Quite a few growers use potassium phosphite that we work with. I am also unclear on the mechanisms.
Don Huber has indicated that it should always be combined with phosphates when applied, and the phosphite should be only 25% of the total P in the solution. Apparently plants incorporate phosphite into ATP, and the ATP then becomes dysfunctional.
