@jjkratt very much agree with your input regarding different forms of N.

Regarding EC, I would add that microbial metabolites have a lower EC than simple ions. Once you begin using a biological approach in a hydroponic system, and develop good biology, the EC requirements can drop by as much as 40% or more. Amino acids do not have the salt index that ionic forms of N do, for example.
