<div>White clover has always been my go to for low orchard row ground cover. It doesn’t compete much for moister with fruit trees. I’ve seen WSU research that confirmed my observations.</div><div>

Where I am farming now has abundant gophers and ground squirrel populations. When the rains come I am going to seed indian sour clover. The anecdote that I’ve heard about claims that this clover “Sour clover is high in coumarin, the original source of the blood
thinner Coumarin. Gophers avoid ingesting sour clover, possibly because
the coumarin adversely affects their blood chemistry.”https://ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm?postnum=16188
