Hi Brian,
I have visited Iowa quite a bit, i remember being in South Central Iowa and the soil there was real heavy clay, and that is why i remembered your tile systems working without any gravel backfill. I also heard a farmer saying he was much narrower spaced than what we were in the UK.
as mentioned above we are at 60 feet and pretty deep with 3-4″ plastic tile. They still work, but i feel with the climate extremes we really need to add capacity, and somehow i would love (with my network of ditches around the farm, to hold some of this water for the summer and use for irrigation if we need it.
How deep is your tile generally? and do you use a plow controlled with RTK GPS?
