In terms of your drainage issue, Stephen Briggs from the UK farming in peat soils next to Oxford has noticed improved drainage on his land by planting apple trees every 3m in the line, 27m between the line, intercropping with grains such as oats. We have an episode with him. Would be good to start there.
We are also about to release another interview with Dan Shepherd who has vast experience intercropping with Pecans.
