Hello. I am doing an expirement trying to inoculate hame made biochar with mycelium prior to incorporation into my compacted soil…has anyone had success directly spawning onto biochar (and pancaked layers of pine straw) with wood loving mushrooms like wine cap or oyster?

Edit: It would be in central NC, growing zone 8a with about 50” of annual rainfall.

    • I’m able to sub out wine cap (and my brother has actually had fruits) in the desert of Central AZ. I’m certain with that kind of rainfall you’ll be fine! I would caution against using commercial non-native strains, and would instead reach out to local mycophiles and businesses for local strains of basidiomycete fungi, only because I’m…

    • Good morning,

We have cereal rye growing on our farm for forage for dairy cattle. I have done 2 tissue tests on leaves this year. The first was Mar 13, 2024 and the 2nd was April 01, 2024. The day temperature was 18 °c on the 1st test and the temp was 12°c on the 2nd test. I do know that the nitrogen % and should go down as it grows and not yet…

It will also depend on the form of N that the plant is taking up and if there were any recent rain events. Time of day that the results are taken can also change the results a bit, particularly related…

      • Anyone care to share what they are doing in broad acre corn for the N efficiency program? I’m working on my own calculations for Humic, Moly, and Carbs (sugar, molasses etc.). In my area we need to put all N down upfront due to logistical problems; maybe down the road I can work on half up front and half from a foliar feeding, but at this…
