Thanks Andre for your thoughts. I’ll attach my last soil analysis. My pH is a bit on the high side 6.9. TEC 10.2. I have addressed the problem with Mo, Co and B. My soil is rather on the heavy/clay side, but not too heavy, and the site is also pretty wet in winter, but rarely with standing water. I have also applied quite a bit of sulphur…

Hello everyone,
I am seeing strong negative correlations between Cl-N, and Cl-P in sap analysis in some crops/growing areas. these crops suffer from chronic deficiencies of N and P. Adding fertilizer does not help.
There is no Cl coming from fertilizer (farmer does not use KCl), but a lot of Cl is coming with the irrigation water…

You need soil analysis reports with at least Melich 3 or Ammonium Acetate and BCSR. Sap alone has limited value. How is sodium? Are you near the sea? What else is the water rich on? Mostly in terms of cations…

Hallo Ido in a recent online course Novacrop confirmed that Cl limit N, S and P. They use Cl to limit N if needed.
Check anion balance. You could consider to use rain water at least for foliar. Cl is very volatile u could consider to aereate water for foliar with a pump also according E.Ingham humic acids help to buffer in some way Cl. Also… Read more - View more comments

Anyhow I’ve had this problem before with entire plantings of young plants, mostly beet, were completely devoured and I found it was that I had a rather thick mulch layer around the plantings and they were prolific under the mulch as they should be. I’m not certain it’s a…

thanks Rowan,
I agree with you. Super wet, things not balanced, favored a proliferation of slaters. I believe things have improved overall in those paddocks in last 3 years, so while a “setback” this season should indicate we are on the right path.
